Safety has to be and is an essential component to the long term success of the Lab to complete its mission and scientific goals and accomplishments. LBNL already has many mature safety systems and policies. We also have many dedicated employees and management who practice and promote safety. We believe that we can build on current programs to create higher level of safety awareness throughout the lab to match the best safety conscious workplaces in the country.
The next step in achieving world class safety performance is to address the Safety Culture of our organization. Understanding the underlying attitudes, beliefs, perceptions and values that make up our Safety Culture is the first step in our path to world class safety performance. Once we better understand our Safety Culture, we can begin to focus on areas where we can build upon the already strong safety programs at Berkeley Lab bringing world class safety together with world class science.
